No. 14 Rangers Sweep First Day at Leander Invitational

State-ranked No. 14 Jesuit Dallas won its first two games at the Leander Tournament, upending Vandegrift, 6-0 before defeating Corpus Christi Carroll, 9-3 on Thursday at Leander H.S. The Rangers improved to 13-0 with the victories.
 
Junior Dillon Brandt threw his third shutout of the season against Vandegrift, striking out seven batters and allowing only two hits during a complete game outing. Sophomores Braxton Barber and James Jorgensen each recorded a double, as Jorgensen closed out the contest 2-for-3 from the plate. Senior Tristen Bird went 2-for-2 with two runs drive in while additional RBI were collected by Barber, junior E'Mar Fleming II, sophomore Charlie Wilson and sophomore Shane Parker.
 
In the nightcap, the Rangers saw Barber collect a multi-hit game, going 2-for-3 and driving in a run while senior Ethan Jimenez added a 2-for-2 performance with two runs scored and a RBI. Parker tacked on another RBI alongside runs driven in by senior Cameron Davis, junior Jake Fults and sophomore Hudson Yobp. On the mound, James Jorgensen went 3.2 innings with six strikeouts and only one hit allowed before the tandem of senior Will Whitehead and junior Sean Cullen threw for the Blue and Gold in relief, holding Carroll to one run and one hit.
 
Jesuit will return for day two of the tournament on Friday, battling Leander (10 a.m.) and Austin McCallum (3 p.m.) in a pair of contests changed from their original times due to weather in Austin.
