Jesuit Outlasts Richardson in Overtime to Close Out Road Trip

The Jesuit Dallas basketball team outlasted Richardson on Tuesday night, upending the Eagles, 67-63 in overtime for a key District 7-6A victory. The road win provides Jesuit with an 8-2 district record ahead of a home stretch that will see the Rangers play at Walsh Gym in three of their final four games.
 
Senior Caleb Steger led the charge with 28 points on the night, racking up another double-double with 10 boards. Senior Charlie Peters led the team in rebounding, securing 11 on the night to help the Blue and Gold out-rebound Richardson, 36-21. Jesuit scored 15 second chance points off of 13 rebounds while the Eagles were held to only four offensive boards during the contest.
 
Senior Michael Grant added 20 points to the team total, Peters and junior William Alexander scored seven apiece while juniors Cooper Jensen and Cade Kirby scored three points and two points, respectively, to round out the scoring. Peters, Steger and Grant each logged two assists while Steger led the team with three steals on the night. Jesuit shot 44.2 percent from the floor and converted 13-of-19 shots from the free-throw line while Richardson did not convert a free-throw on the evening.
 
Tuesday's victory sets up another key district showdown on Friday as Jesuit will host Berkner at 7 p.m. Lake Highlands currently sits atop the district standings with a 9-1 record, followed by second-place Jesuit (9-2) and Berkner, which currently ranks third with a 7-3 record. The Rams defeated Irving, 75-43 on Tuesday behind 15-point outings from Justin Shell and Jordan Jones along with 14 points from Demarcus Calhoun. 
 
In the first meeting between the two teams this season, Jesuit came storming back from a double-digit deficit to defeat Berkner, 66-60 on January 7. Tip-off for Friday's game is set for 7 p.m.
