Rangers Pick up Second District Win, Defeat Richardson at Walsh Gym

Jesuit notched its second district win of the season, unleashing a dominant first quarter offensive salvo and hanging on down the stretch for a 68-55 win over Richardson on Friday at Walsh Gym.
 
Senior Michael Grant hit the 30-point mark for the second time in the last three games, shooting 12-of-16 from the field, including three three-pointers, to finish with 31 points and 12 rebounds. Senior Kevin Butera scored 12 points while senior Caleb Steger scored 10 points, snagged five boards and recorded a career-high eight assists for the Blue and Gold. Junior Cade Kirby led the team with two steals while senior Charlie Peters scored eight points, added six rebounds and recorded three assists.
 
Jesuit's perimeter defense frustrated Richardson during the bout, holding the Eagles (17-6, 2-1) to an 18.2 percent clip from behind the arc. Meanwhile, the Rangers (13-7, 2-1) shot 44.4 percent from the floor, 38.5 percent from three-point range and 90.9 percent from the charity stripe.
 
The Rangers will return to action on Tuesday, January 7 as Jesuit travels to Berkner for its first road district game of the season. Tip-off between the Rangers and Rams is set for 7 p.m. Berkner is currently tied for the Rangers with a 2-1 mark in district play and has won 10 of its last 12 games, most recently upending Irving, 55-33, on Jan. 3.
