IRVING, Texas - Jesuit Dallas scored on six possessions and returned a punt for a touchdown in a 48-8 siege of Irving Nimitz at Joy and Ralph Ellis Stadium on Friday night.
With the win, Jesuit (5-5, 5-2 7-6A) will be the top seed out of District 7 in the University Interscholastic League Division 2 Playoffs and face District 8 runner-up Arlington Lamar (5-5, 4-3) Â on Friday, Nov. 15 at Ranger Stadium on campus.
Jesuit has won at least five district games each of the last seven seasons and 14 times in 15 seasons under head coach
Brandon Hickman. The Blue and Gold will be making their 18th postseason appearance in 22 years of UIL membership next week.
The Rangers used quick strikes and some long bombardments with five scoring plays of 29 yards or longer and three scores in a span of 5:17 late in the first quarter to build a 28-0 edge.
Sophomore
Corson Lindley had a night to remember on special teams, returning the opening kickoff 61 yards to set up the first score of the night before adding a 46-yard punt return for a touchdown two possessions later.
Jesuit racked up 329 yards of total offense on just 29 plays for a 12.3 yards per play average. The Rangers built a 35-0 halftime lead, scoring five times on only 12 plays from scrimmage and the punt return.
Sophomore
J.P. Livingstone and senior
Beck Berry combined for 237 passing yards on 10-of-13 with two touchdowns each. Berry completed long scoring plays to
Harlan Beucler (73 yards) and
Shane Parker (29 yards), while Livingstone found
Max Smith in the end zone twice from 40 and nine yards. Livingstone also ran for a 63 yard touchdown in the fourth quarter.
Nimitz (0-10, 0-7) finished with 271 yards of total offense with all of it coming on 59 rushes. The Vikings were 0-for-1 on their lone pass attempt. Jaylin Harris had 148 yards on 20 carries and recorded the lone Viking touchdown when he recovered a Jevon Woolfork fumble in the end zone. Woolfork - the district's leading rusher with 1026 yards entering the game - was held to just 69 yards on 16 carries.
Nimitz fumbled the ball three times and lost two of them. The Jesuit defense has forced 15 turnovers in the last seven games.Â
Jesuit had a season-high 56 players see the field on Friday.
