Araiza's Last Minute Goal Propels Jesuit Dallas Past Guyer in Area Round

Senior Clyde Araiza scored the go-ahead goal with 1:25 remaining in regulation, giving Jesuit Dallas the edge to upend upset-minded Denton Guyer, 3-2, on Wednesday, March 26 at John Clark Stadium in Plano. The game began on Tuesday, March 25, was suspended due to weather and resumed on Wednesday.

Junior Cooper McGough secured two assists on the evening, none more critical than the perfect through ball to Araiza deep in Guyer territory for the game-winning goal. Araiza finished the contest with two goals, scoring his first tally in the 72nd minute to propel Jesuit to a 2-0 advantage and jumpstart a wild final 10 minutes to end regulation. Guyer would score in the 73rd and 77th minute to even the game, setting the stage for Araiza's game-winner. Senior Mario Zamora scored Jesuit's first goal, sending a deflected header from a free kick by McGough under the crossbar for the first goal of the game.

Overall, Jesuit Dallas outshot Guyer, 17-6. The Rangers' defense held the Wildcats in check during the first half, not yielding a shot to Guyer before the Wildcats racked up six shots in the second half. Senior Jake Chostner marshaled the defense, making one critical save in goal during the second half. Sophomore Zane Roland took four shots, including one on goal while senior Noah McGough landed two attempts on goal and finished the game with four shot attempts. Senior Max Sabogal, senior Drew Koshakji and junior Corbyn Wendorf also made shot attempts in the area round.
