DALLAS -
Cooper McGough put two hard shots into the back of the goal to lift Jesuit Dallas past TCA-Addison, 2-0, at Ranger Stadium in the season opener on Thursday.
McGough's 2-goal game was the third of his varsity career and helped the Rangers advance into the winner's bracket of the 45th Annual Jesuit-Meintser Invitational. Jesuit will face Bryan Adams in the semifinals for the second-consecutive year. The Cougars defeated W.T. White, 2-1.
Jesuit cracked the scoreboard first in the 21st minute on a throw-in.
Henry King put the ball into the box where
Zane Roland deflected it to an open spot where McGough scored. The Rangers scored again, this time nine minutes into the second half when a soft goal kick found McGough alone in the middle of the attacking third. He settled the ball with his chest, took a short dribble and fired a hard shot from 22 yards out into the back of the net.
Sage Jones did not face a shot in 70 minutes in goal for the shutout.
Jesuit outshot TCA 18-0 and took all eight corner kicks that were awarded. The Blue and Gold were whistled for five fouls compared to seven for TCA.
