PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - This past weekend, Jesuit Crew traveled to Philadelphia to compete at the 99th Stotesbury Cup Regatta, the largest high school rowing event in the world. Racing against many of the top scholastic programs in the country, Jesuit entered crews in the Freshman 8+, Junior 4+, and Senior 4+.
Competition opened Friday with time trials on the Schuylkill River. Jesuit's Freshman 8+ placed 10th out of more than 30 entries to advance into the semifinals. The Junior 4+ delivered one of the strongest performances of the opening rounds, placing 4th out of more than 50 crews to secure a place in the semifinals. Friday afternoon, the Senior 4+ followed with a tightly contested time trial that also advanced the crew into the semifinals.
Semifinal racing began Saturday morning. The Freshman 8+ concluded its weekend after placing 3rd in its semifinal, with only the top two crews moving on. The Senior 4+ also concluded its weekend following a competitive semifinal race just short of the finals.
The Junior 4+ continued its momentum through the semifinals, earning a 2nd place finish to qualify for the Grand Final and secure a place among the top six Junior 4+ crews at the regatta. In the final, Jesuit remained in medal contention deep into the race before a significant wake disrupted the crew's rhythm in the closing stages. The crew battled through the remainder of the course to finish 6th overall.
Advancing every entry into semifinal racing at an event of this caliber reflects the continued growth of the program and the standard these athletes have worked to establish throughout the season.
As Head Coach Eli Brown noted, "Stotesbury exposes every weakness a crew has. The speed was there this weekend, but so were the lessons. At this level, races become chaotic and distractions enter the environment. Learning how to remain composed and execute regardless of circumstance is what allows programs to continue moving forward nationally. I believe this group now has a much clearer understanding of what is required moving forward."
The Stotesbury Cup Regatta concluded Jesuit Crew's 2026 season and marked another important step in the continued development of the program.
