DALLAS – Flower Mound Marcus took advantage of two Jesuit Dallas throwing errors and was able to come away with a 3-2 win game one of the best of 3 UIL 6A Division 2 Region ! Championship series at Horner Ballpark on Thursday.
Taylor Haddock went 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI for Jesuit (30-8-2).
James Jorgensen also had a pair of hits.
Marcus got on the scoreboard in the second, scoring an unearned run on a Jorgensen throwing error with the bases loaded that would have been the third out of the inning.
The Rangers battled back and tied it in the fourth when Haddock singled to lead off the frame and then advanced to third on a walk and single. He then crossed the plate on a fielder's choice.
Jesuit took a 3-2 lead in the top of the seventh on an RBI double by Haddock that scored
Griffin Civello from second. The Rangers ended up stranding two on base in the inning.
In the Marcus half of the seventh, the Marauders got a runner on with a 1-out throwing error and scored him two batters later on an Easton Mitchell single to left. Marcus got the walk-off win a batter later when Jameson Mayfield singled to deep left center to score Austin Allen.
Jorgensen (8-1) struck out seven and gave up four hits as lost for the first time this season.
Marcus improved to 26-11. Six different players had a hit, including the first five in the lineup.
The teams will play the second game of their series on Friday at 6 p.m. at Horner Ballpark on the campus of Dallas Baptist University.
