WICHITA FALLS, Texas - Over the weekend Jesuit Cycling competed in two races at the famous Hotter'N Hell Hundred. In over 20 years of having a program this was the first time the cycling team made this a team trip.

The team competed in the 45-minute category 3/4 criterium on Friday afternoon on an 8-corner course. With a 4:15p start it was HOT and the racing was fast. With about a third or a quarter of the race left one rider went on a solo breakaway and held it to the line leaving the rest of the field to race for second place. In the end, Nicholas Carter '28 won the field sprint to claim 2nd place on the day while Wesley Tavares' 29 finished solidly in the pack for 16th and Austin Dourty '29 placed 22nd a few laps down.

The team had a quick turnaround as Saturday's 64.6 mile (~100km) category 3/4 Road Race started at 6:55a. Nicholas made a few moves in the race to gauge the field's responsiveness but unsurprisingly they didn't want to let anything get away so it was set to be a field sprint. After the final three turns coming into downtown Wichita Falls Nicholas started the sprint early as the pack came out of the final corner, which was about 400 meters away from the finish line. Several meters before the line the previous night's winner surged ahead to once again claim the win while Nicholas was able to hold off the rest of the surging field to snag second in a photo finish. Wesley finished in the front group with a strong 15th while Austin finished about 15 minutes back for 26th. Nicholas finished the 64.6 mile road race in 2 hours 44 minutes and 49 seconds with Wesley finishing in 2:44.57 and both of them averaging 23.3 mph.
