RICHARDSON, Texas - A full compliment of six Jesuit Dallas cyclists team took on the final Turbo Velo Tuesday Night Crit of 2026. Three brand new team members compete in their first ever road cycling race with two of them competing in their first ever bicycle race.

Six Rangers took on the 25-minute category 4/5 'C' race and all of them finished with none of them in last place, which is a great place to be in your first ever race. Throughout the race Wesley Tavares '29 stayed tucked in near the front of the race pack keeping an eye on how the race developed while staying out of the wind while Austin Dourty '29 stayed safely in back half of the pack but each time it looked like the field might split into two groups he smartly moved up to stay with the front group. In the end, both Wesley and Austin were able to avoid a last lap crash and finished in the front half of the pack. Meanwhile, freshman Aidan Grafe '30 impressed in his first road race by staying with the pack for a few laps and then settling into a solid rotation in a chase group once he got dropped from the main peloton after not being able to match a few of their surges.

In the 35-minute category 3/4 'B' race, sophomores Wesley and Austin smartly stayed tucked away in the pack most of the race taking advantage of the draft while the race played out. In the second half of the race one racer got away solo and ultimately built up a 30+ second gap and holding on for the win. In the final two laps, the pack strung out and Wesley smartly held his position in the top ten and on the final lap moved into fourth wheel in the pack and then started his sprint from third of fourth wheel as they came into the final stretch. It was good enough to secure 4^th overall (3^rd in the men's race) while Austin put in his fastest lap of the day and race while moving up from farther back in the pack to finish 10^th overall. 

Closing out the night and the 2026 season of weeknight crits was the main feature - the pro/ category 1/2/3 'A' race - which was contested by Junior Nicholas Carter '28 with coach Armstrong '01 also racing for the team to support Nicholas and serve as both an in-race coach and teammate. With 55 starters including full squads from both the nationally competitive The Parks Law Firm team and Midwestern State University's collegiate Varsity cycling team (including alum Nico Martinellie '25), the race was blistering fast and very aggressive from the gun with near constant attacks. While averaging 29mph for the duration of the 36-minute and 16+ mile race, multiple course records were broken, including the fastest 1, 5, and 10 laps. In fact, Nicholas now holds the unofficial course record for the fastest 10-laps with a Strava time of 21:20 and 29.3 mph average speed over the 10.4 miles. Unfortunately, there was a crash in the middle of the peloton with 3.75 laps to go, which took coach Armstrong out of the race, but Nicholas was able to skirt around it and hang on as the group chased back to the front group. Nicholas was then able to get into perfect position sitting inside the top ten for the final two laps and was able to snag 10^th place.  This is a fantastic result in what was a pretty elite level weeknight crit.
