Christian Chiles scored 12 points and the Jesuit defense sustained consistent pressure as the Rangers earned their first win of the 2014-15 season with a 40-28 victory over Plano. The Thanksgiving weekend affair started slowly, with the teams tied at 7-7 after the first quarter, and Jesuit clinging to a 15-14 lead at the intermission.
The Rangers took charge with a momentous start to the second half, as Tom Weber's quick bucket was followed less than a minute later by a Tyler Schlapkohl three pointer. Jesuit (1-2) jumped out to a 20-14 lead less than a minute into the second half, and the Ranger defense took over from there. Plano (3-1) was kept out of rhythm all afternoon, scoring no more than seven points in any quarter. Jesuit took a 27-21 lead into the fourth quarter, and Schlapkohl (pictured above) opened the final frame with another three ball to extend the Ranger lead.
Chiles finished the game with a team-leading 12 points and also had five rebounds. Christian Nwosu put up seven points and pulled in seven boards while silencing the Wildcat big men in the paint. Schlapkohl and Weber each had six points on the afternoon.
Jesuit faces a talented Berkner squad Tuesday, Dec. 2, on the road, then prepares to host the 2014 Knights of Columbus Tournament Dec. 4-6 at Walsh Gym. Live broadcasts and live stats for all games are available for all varsity games.
