Jesuit Basketball Clinches 9th Straight UIL Playoff Appearance

After a dominant 81-30 win over Sunset Saturday afternoon, Jesuit basketball clinched its ninth straight UIL playoff appearance. It is the 11th playoff berth in Jesuit's 12 years in the UIL.

On Saturday afternoon, Michael McReynolds led the team with 16 points and nine rebounds, while Tyler Schlapkohl scored 11 and Sam Truxal put up 10 en route to a Ranger victory.  Jesuit solidified their spot in third place in District 9-6A, and will advance to play an opponent from District 10-6A in the first round.

"We're really excited to keep playing, and to have a chance to make a run this year," said head coach Chris Hill.  "I'm proud of these boys. They've accomplished a lot, and they've given themselves an opportunity to accomplish even more."

The Rangers have won three of their last four contests, including wins over W.T. White and R.L. Turner at Walsh Gym. Tyler Schlapkohl scored a team-high 15 in the R.L. Turner game, while Chris Nwosu scored 13 and grabbed nine rebounds.  Against W.T. White, Michael McReynolds led the squad with 17 points while Christian Chiles tallied 14 and Peter Lynch put up 12.  These stats speak to the versatility of Jesuit's offense; seven different players have led the team in points during the season.

"This is a great accomplishment for our boys," said Athletic Director Steve Koch. "This nine year streak is a reflection of the type of young men we have in the program, and it's also a reflection of the leadership and dedication of our coaches."

Chris Hill said "it really speaks to the Jesuit community, and the commitment we have to supporting athletics, and supporting our boys." Hill has led his team to the playoffs every season in his seven year tenure as head coach.

Jesuit closes out the regular season Tuesday, February 17, against Skyline. The Skyline game will be Senior Night, with tipoff scheduled for 7:30 at Walsh Gym.  After Tuesday night's action, Jesuit will learn of its first round opponent, which will be the second-place team in District 10-6A.  The first round playoff game will likely take place Tuesday, February 24, at a neutral location.

All varsity basketball games are available online, with a live broadcast and live streaming stats.  Information on playoff locations and ticket prices will be posted in the coming week.
