OFFICIAL WASHINGTON STATE PRESS RELEASEJesuit Dallas 1995 graduate David Nichol has been hired as the new outside wide receivers coach at Washington State, announced on Dec. 24 by the Cougars' athletic department.
Nichol arrives in Pullman, Washington from East Carolina University, where he was the offensive coordinator during the 2015 season. Spending four years as a coach for the Pirates, Nichol was promoted in 2015 after spending three years as the outside receivers coach.
Rejoining Washington State head coach Mike Leach, who Nichol spent two seasons with as an offensive line assistant coach at Texas Tech, Nichol will assist with the top-ranked passing offense in the PAC-12. In 2015, the Cougars averaged 389.2 passing yards per game, including 41 receiving touchdowns, boasting pair of wide receivers in Gabe Marks and Dom Williams who caught 10 or more touchdown passes this year.
Nichol's next stop marks another benchmark in an impressive career for the Ranger alum. After completing his playing career at Texas Tech, Nichol earned a position at Cisco Junior College in 2002 as the passing game coordinator, quarterbacks and receivers coach.Â
After his stint at Texas Tech from 2003 to 2005, Nichol spent a season at Baylor before spending five seasons at Arizona. Beginning as a graduate assistant in 2007, several promotions put the former Ranger in charge of the Wildcats' receiving corps in 2011.Â
Arizona saw a drastic improvement under Nichol's tenure, rising from 48th nationally to third in 2011, with assistance from quarterback Nick Foles and receiver Juron Criner, a pair of Wildcats who were later drafted into the National Football League.
