Basketball Travels to Coppell to Begin District Campaign

Rangers Topple Wolves: Trailing by three points entering the fourth, Jesuit Dallas outscored Timberview, 17-9 in the final stanza to snap a two-game skid with a 56-51 win over the Wolves on Tuesday evening in Mansfield, Texas. Jesuit hit 12-of-20 shots in the second half, completing a comeback attempt that handed the Blue and Gold their eighth win of the season. Senior Mitch Prendergast led the team in scoring, posting an 18-point performance on 7-of-11 shooting. Junior Marcus Hill and senior Jacob Palisch recorded eight points each, while Hill also tied junior Reid Hatzmann and senior Alan Garcia for the team lead in rebounding with four boards. Hatzmann tacked on a team-high four assists and seven points, and sophomore Max Abmas went 7-of-8 from the free-throw line.

Magic Number from Three: Jesuit's win over Timberview was the first time this season that the Rangers shot under 35 percent from three-point range. In each of the team's seven wins prior to the triumph over the Wolves, Jesuit has shot 40 percent or higher from distance on six occasions, including a season-high 68.2 three-point percentage (15-of-22) against OKC Storm in the final game of the 2016 Frisco Lone Star Shootout. Heading into tonight's game, Jesuit is shooting 40.6 percent as a team, compared to a 31.7 conversion rate for opponents.

Lending a Hand: One key component of the Rangers' early season success is the team's ability to distribute the ball and maintain possession. Jesuit holds a 1.2 team assist-to-turnover ratio, and average 14.3 assists per game. Currently, junior Reid Hatzmann leads the team with 55 assists, followed by 30 from senior Mitch Prendergast and 16 by sophomore Max Abmas.

Mercer Scoring an Ace: Recent Mercer verbal commit Mitch Prendergast has impressed throughout the early portion of the season, averaging a team-high 14.8 points per game while ranking in the top three of several offensive categories. So far this year, Prendergast is shooting 49.2 from the field and 50.9 from range, ranking third on the team with 42 rebounds, second on the squad with 13 steals and fourth with 24 made free throws.

Scouting Coppell: The Cowboys enter their first district action of the season after dropping a 65-31 decision to North Crowley on December 13. Currently, Coppell is on a three-game skid, falling, 40-37, to Weslaco East on December 3 to close the San Antonio Varsity Tournament before falling at home to Grapevine, 55-45, on December 6. Coppell's last win came on December 3, a 61-59 triumph over Kileen that preceded the setback to Weslaco. The Rangers and Cowboys have only one common opponent; Mansfield Timberview. Coppell lost to the Wolves, 54-48, on November 29.

Up Next: Jesuit will take a brief respite from competition for the holiday season, but will return to action on Tuesday, December 27 at the In-and-Out Allen Holiday Invitational. The Rangers will open the tournament against Midlothian at 4 p.m., hoping to improve upon a second-place finish at last year's tournament.
