Weekly Outlook Interview with Coach Chris Hill

No. 11 Raiders Defeat Rangers in Overtime:
A game-winning three-pointer by Marcus Garrett with under 15 seconds remaining in overtime pushed Skyline, ranked No. 11 in the most recent Texas Association of Basketball Coaches state rankings, past the Rangers, 41-38, last Tuesday.  A stark contrast to the earlier bout between the two programs, a 56-38 Skyline win at Walsh Gym on Jan. 22, the Rangers kept pace with the Raiders, shooting 43.8 percent from the floor and 57.1 from behind the arc, but were unable to stop a late Skyline push, aided by 10 offensive rebounds from the Raiders, including two critical boards in the overtime period.

Make-or-Break From Distance: The Rangers will head into the UIL 6A State Tournament averaging 65.2 points per game, outscoring opponents by an average of 12.6 points per game.  One key component of the squad's impressive scoring output is Jesuit's platoon of talented guards, evidenced by the Rangers' 35.8 three-point field goal percentage on the year.  Averaging 8.5 three-pointers per game, Jesuit is 11-3 this year when hitting nine or more three-pointers.  Sophomores Michael Jankovich and Marcus Hill have hit 81 and 71 shots from behind the arc, respectively, to lead the squad.

Rangers Hope to Repeat Season-Opening Success: Jesuit Dallas and Mesquite will meet for the second time this year on Tuesday, the first being both team's season openers on Nov. 17.  The Rangers would record 24 points in the paint, a game-high 19 points from junior Mitch Prendergast and a season-high, 15-point effort from fellow third year Alan Garcia en route to a 65-52 win over the Skeeters at Mesquite H.S.  Jesuit was able to withstand a 31-point performance by Mesquite's Bryson Robinson by holding the remainder of the squad to 21 combined points, while Mesquite struggled from behind the arc, finishing the contest 3-of-22 from three-point range.

Catching Up With the Skeeters: Closing out the 2015-16 season with an 18-9 record along with an 11-3 mark in UIL District 10-6A, Mesquite fell to Lake Highlands, 63-56, in its regular season finale last Tuesday.  The loss snapped a nine-game winning streak for the Skeeters, which also included a 69-63 triumph over UIL District 10-6A champion and state-ranked No. 4 Richardson.
