Jesuit Baseball - Weekly Game Notes
Weekend Game Preview with Jesuit Dallas Head Coach Brian Jones

Rangers Take Electric Tollway Series: A slew of clutch performances by the Jesuit Dallas junior contingent helped lead the Rangers back to the University Interscholastic League (UIL) Region II 6A Semifinal round after a dramatic, three-game series last weekend.  Junior Jacob Palisch hurled a no-hitter, striking out a season-high 15 batters in a 4-0, game one victory.  Palisch struck out 12 consecutive hitters to start the contest, allowing only one walk and facing the minimum number of batters during the contest.  A late sacrifice fly by senior Jared Kengott forced extra innings, but Highland Park tied the series with a 4-2, eight-inning victory in front of a crowd of over 1,500 at Wright Field on Friday.  Junior Heath VanKirk took the mound in game three, hurling a masterful, four-hit, seven-strikeout performance while fellow third year Will Guzman went 3-for-3 with a pair of RBI doubles.  Palisch returned to the mound in the seventh to slam the door on the Scots and advance the Rangers with a 3-2, game three win.

Muller Named Texas Player of the Year: Jesuit Dallas senior Kyle Muller earned Gatorade Texas Player of the Year honors, announced on Tuesday. The Gatorade State Baseball Players of the Year were selected based on athletic production and impact in the 2015-16 season. Each winner also demonstrated high academic achievement and exemplary personal character, including volunteerism, sportsmanship and community leadership.   On the mound, Muller dominated opponents, ending the regular season with a 0.30 earned run average and 85 strikeouts.  Muller hurled a no-hitter against Sunset before recording a 21-strikeout performance against Irving on Apr. 1.  Between the two contests, Muller struck out 33 consecutive batters, a national record. Muller added his second no-hitter of the year in the bi-district round of the UIL 6A Baseball State Tournament, striking out 15 en route to propelling Jesuit past the North Mesquite Stallions. The two-time Dallas Morning News Player of the Week selection finished the regular season with a .430 batting average and an unprecedented 14 home runs, winning the Metroplex home run title convincingly.

Magic Numbers: Jesuit Dallas is 15-0-1 this season when hitting at least one home run, and 29-2 on the year when scoring first.  Outscoring opponents, 161-43 in the first three innings this season, the Rangers hold a 28-0 record when holding an opponent under two runs.  Jesuit has come through in the clutch on several occasions this year, logging 97 two-out RBI, tacking on a .600 team batting average with a runner on third and less than two outs.

Rangers, War Eagles Set for Rematch: This weekend's series will be a rematch of the 2015 UIL 6A Region II Final, a series swept by Jesuit Dallas.  Harrison Folk '15 earned the win in game one, only allowing one run through 6.2 innings pitched, Kyle Muller drove in two and Jacob Palisch earned his fourth save of the season to help Jesuit to a 3-1 victory.  Muller took the mound in the clincher, striking out seven en route to a complete game, three-hit shutout.  Current senior Cameron Dobbs laced a home run to help the Rangers to the 4-0 win.

Playoff Magic: With a 2-for-3 performance in the decisive third game on Sunday, Will Guzman took over the team lead in hitting during the UIL Playoffs.  Guzman currently owns a .500 batting average, a .714 slugging percentage and three doubles, both of which lead the team.  Senior Jared Bond has driven in a team-leading eight runs, including two home runs, while fellow fourth year Pete Hamrick joins Bond with a squad-high seven runs scored.  On the mound, Jacob Palisch remains the only starter for the Rangers who has yet to retire a postseason run, holding opposing batters to a .149 average while striking out 35 over three starts and four appearances.  Senior Kyle Muller leads the squad with 40 strikeouts.
