GAME PREVIEW: Jesuit Starts Three-Game Schedule in New York City

The Jesuit Dallas basketball squad opens a three-game slate in New York City on Thursday, traveling to Long Island to face perennial state power Long Island Lutheran on Thursday, Dec. 7 at 6 p.m. CST. The Rangers, ranked 15th in the state according to the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches (TABC), look to continue their unbeaten start to the season on the Eastern seaboard.
 
Rangers Capture Knights of Columbus Championship
Jesuit Dallas captured its first Bob Stras Knights of Columbus Tournament Championship since 2014 with a 72-61 victory over St. Ignatius on Nov. 2, 2017. The Rangers erupted out of the gate, taking a 35-17 lead at halftime in the win. Junior Julius Marble led the way with a team-high 21 points, adding five rebounds and two assists. Classmate Max Abmas continued a stellar start to the 2017-18 campaign with 20 points, hitting 5-of-8 three-pointers. Senior Reid Hatzmann contributed five rebounds and a team-high seven assists to the Jesuit Dallas effort. Jesuit earned the championship game berth with a 75-30 win over San Antonio Memorial on Nov. 30 and a 64-41 triumph against Tascosa on Dec. 1.
 
Marble Named Ranger of the Week
Junior Julius Marble was named Ranger of the Week for the first time in his varsity career after averaging 16 points and 4.6 rebounds per game at the Bob Stras Knights of Columbus Tournament, earning Tournament Most Valuable Player honors. After the Rangers' first eight games this season, Marble is averaging 13.8 points, 6.5 boards and is shooting 51.2 percent from the line while converting 74.3 percent of shots from the free throw line.
 
Scouting Long Island Lutheran
Listed as a Nike "Elite" High School, the Crusaders are currently 1-0 after a 71-58 win over Chaminade on Dec. 2. Tyson Etienne led Long Island Lutheran with a team-high 20 points while Andrew Curbelo racked up 13 points and five assists. Tykei Greene, Donatas Kupsas posted 11 points apiece, and Essam Mostafa picked up a double double, scoring 11 points and dragging down 14 rebounds. Senior Frankie Policelli is the No. 4 Mostafa is the No. 8 prospect in New York State according to 247Sports, The Crusaders entered the season as the top-ranked team in New York according to the MaxPreps Pre-Season Basketball Rankings. Long Island Lutheran has been a long-time power in the New York area, capturing New York State Federation State Championships in 1981, 1984, 1994, 1997, 2009, 2011 and, most recently, 2012.

Jesuit will continue its three-game schedule at the Inaugural 2017 Knight Classic on Friday at Holy Cross High School in Flushing, New York. The Rangers will take on the Warriors from Our Lady of Lourdes at 4:30 p.m. CST on Friday before taking on either Campus Magnet or Holy Cross at 11 a.m. CST on Saturday, Dec. 9.
