Jesuit Dallas Set to Host Knights of Columbus Bob Stras Dallas Classic

Jesuit Dallas basketball head coach Chris Hill has announced the field for the 56th Annual Bob Strass Knights of Columbus Basketball Tournament, scheduled for Nov. 29-Dec. 1 from Walsh Gymnasium on the campus of Jesuit Dallas. The Rangers will welcome Frisco Lone Star, Irving MacArthur, Mesquite, Dallas Lincoln, Nolan Catholic, Amarillo Tascosa and St. Ignatius (Calif.) for the annual tournament, where Jesuit Dallas will aim to capture its second consecutive tournament title.

The Rangers earned the first UIL Region 2-6A Championship berth in program history after defeating state-ranked No. 3 Dekaney, 50-47, on Mar. 2. Jesuit concluded the season with a 30-6 record to earn the first 30-win season during the team's tenure in the UIL. Returning District Co-Offensive MVP Max Abmas, Jesuit will look to defend its Knights of Columbus Tournament title, earned with a 72-61 victory over St. Ignatius on Dec. 2.

Lincoln captured the 10-4A District Championship with a perfect, 12-0 record in league play. Closing the year 23-6, the Tigers advanced to the UIL Regional 2-4A Tournament before falling to UIL 4A State Finalist Dallas Carter in the regional tournament. Reigning District 10-4A Coach of the Year Cedric Patterson and District Sophomore of the Year Brandon Cotton will return for the Tigers.

Under the leadership of Keith Connor, Frisco Lone Star finished the 2017-18 season with a 20-13 record and a UIL Region 2-5A Bi-District Championship. Finishing second in District 13-5A, Lone Star ended the district season on a seven-game winning streak before upending The Colony, 51-50, in the bi-district round. The Rangers return all-district first team selection Julian Larry and will return to the Knights of Columbus Tournament after defeating Tascosa, 52-44, in the third-place game of last year's tournament.

MacArthur concluded the 2018 season with a 10-20 record and a 4-10 mark in UIL District 7-6A play, missing the postseason after dropping the final three district games of the year. The Cardinals will return all-district first team selections Blake Burris and Carius Key and will return to the tournament after finishing 1-2 at the 2017 Knights of Columbus tournament. The Cardinals upended San Antonio Memorial, 62-30 to finish in seventh-place at the tournament.

A staple in the Knights of Columbus Tournament, Mesquite returns to Walsh Gymnasium after a 14-16 campaign last year along with a 6-7 record in UIL District 11-6A. District Newcomer of the Year Cody LeBlanc returns for a Skeeter squad that won the consolation bracket last season with a 74-34 win over South Hills.

The Vikings posted a 20-11 mark under the leadership of Dwight Coleman, including an 8-6 record in TAPPS District 1-6A to finish in third place. After upending El Paso Cathedral, 45-35, in the first round of the playoffs, Nolan Catholic was defeated by Concordia Lutheran in the second round of the TAPPS Tournament.

St. Ignatius won two contests in the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) Boys' Open Division Tournament, capping the year with an 18-10 record and a 9-5 mark in league play. The Wildcats earned an appearance in the Knights of Columbus Championship game before falling to Jesuit Dallas, but secured victories over MacArthur and Frisco Lone Star to earn the championship game bid.

Tascosa captured a UIL Bi-District Championship last season, finishing the year with a 21-12 record alongside a 6-4 mark in district play. The Rebels earned a 77-33 win in the opening round against Fort Worth South Hills, but fell to Jesuit Dallas in the semifinals, 64-41 before dropping the third-place game to Lone Star the following day. Tascosa will return all-district second team designee B.J. Anderson.
