Perryman Buries Game-Winner as Jesuit Topples No. 18 (5A) South Oak Cliff: Senior Gavin Perryman raced down the full extension of the court and hit a buzzer-beating three-pointer to cap a 21-point performance and send Jesuit to a 56-54 win over No. 17 (5A) South Oak Cliff on Saturday in South Dallas. Jesuit opened the 2020-21 season with an impressive comeback performance as the Blue and Gold came storming back from an eight-point halftime deficit to pick up the win. Perryman finished the contest 4-of-10 from behind the arc, converting seven field goals for his 21-point total. Perryman added a team-high four steals, five rebounds and two assists. Junior Ben Johnson scored nine points in his varsity debut, going a perfect 4-for-4 from the free-throw line. Junior Matthew McKinzie tacked on eight points and three boards while sophomore Owen Berry went 2-for-4 from the floor for six points and added three assists.Senior Shane Hatzmann led the team with seven assists as classmate Conor Moore dragged down a team-leading seven rebounds. Junior Grant Kostos blocked a pair of shots as Hatzmann picked up five rebounds.
Last Time They Met... Jesuit used a strong-willed defense and determined play in the paint to secure a 61-51, season-opening win over Mesquite on Tuesday at Mesquite H.S. The Rangers capture their fifth straight win over the Skeeters and win their season opener for the fifth consecutive season. Gavin Perryman scored a team-high 19 points, going 7-of-15 from the floor and 5-of-9 from behind the arc. Senior Eli Steger finished the contest with 10 points and seven rebounds while classmate Darryl Brown secured a team-high 10 rebounds while adding six points. Junior Shane Hatzmann added a team-high six assists in his season debut. The Rangers additionally saw four members of the team make their debuts on varsity, including junior Cal Linn. Linn hit four three-pointers to finish the game with 12 points, adding four rebounds and a steal. Junior forward Conor Moore sliced through the Skeeter defense en route to a 3-for-5 clip from the field to finish his first varsity game with seven points and three rebounds. Junior Camden Roy was a key defensive presence during the late periods of the contest as Reid Lynch converted both of his field goal attempts to finish with five points. Jesuit scored 32 points in the paint and 15 points off of 14 offensive rebounds. The Rangers forced 17 Mesquite turnovers, which turned into 16 points for the Blue and Gold, and out-rebounded Mesquite, 37-18.
Up Next: Jesuit will travel to Prosper on Friday to battle the Eagles in a reboot of the two-year district rivalry between the two teams. The Rangers will return to Walsh Gym on Dec. 4 to take on Arlington Sam Houston.
