Jesuit Dallas outlasted Berkner on Friday, upending the Rams, 64-58 in front of a packed Walsh Gym. The victory not only propelled Jesuit to a 9-2 mark in district play, but also saw senior
Michael Grant hit a personal milestone with his 1,000th career varsity point.
Grant entered the matchup with 999 career points, converting a layup with 2:17 left in the quarter that pushed him past the millennium mark. Grant is the second Ranger this season to hit the 1,000 point plateau, following senior
Caleb Steger, who accomplished the feat on November 26 against Dallas Lincoln. Steger would lead all scorers with 21 points in the win, followed by 15 points from Grant. Senior
Ethan Mahowald closed out the contest with seven points, followed by six points apiece from senior
Kevin Butera and junior
William Alexander.
Senior
Charlie Peters led the team with five assists and added six rebounds. Steger led the team with eight boards on the night, followed by seven rebounds from Grant. Jesuit's defense held Berkner to a 3-of-15 clip from outside the arc, while the Rangers racked up five blocks and scored 15 second-chance points on 12 offensive rebounds, finishing the contest with a 32-23 advantage on the glass.
Jesuit will return to Walsh Gym on Tuesday to square off against Nimitz. The Vikings dropped a 57-36 decision to Pearce on Friday evening and will enter the matchup with a 1-10 mark in district play. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Tuesday evening.
