Basketball Gameday: Jesuit Starts Long Road Trip at Little Elm

Rangers Finish Third at Bob Stras Dallas Classic
Jesuit posted a third place finish at the 2016 Knights of Columbus Bob Stras Dallas Classic Tournament this past weekend at Walsh Gym. The Rangers defeated Frisco Heritage, 69-67, in their first round contest before falling to eventual tournament champion Waco Midway, 72-62, in overtime the following day. Jesuit rebounded in the third-place game with a 54-38 victory over former University Interscholastic League (UIL) District 9-6A rival MacArthur. In total, Jesuit averaged 61.7 points per game during the Bob Stras Classic, averaging 34 rebounds per game to outpace its three opponents.
 
Prendergast Puts on Phenomenal Week
Senior Mitch Prendergast earned Ranger of the Week plaudits after averaging 21.3 points per game during the Rangers' four games last week. Shooting 56 percent from three-point range and 9-of-12 from the charity stripe, Prendergast tacked on 11 assists, six steals and 13 rebounds over the Rangers' 2-2 week. Against Plano East on November 29, Prendergast set a new career high with 29 points, surpassing his previous career best of 23 against Allen on December 30, 2015. The Mercer University commit shot 12-of-20 from the floor and 3-of-6 from three-point range for the team's highest scoring output of the season.
 
Scouting Little Elm
Entering Tuesday's game with a 6-3 record, the Lobos most recently fell to Denton Guyer, 87-78, in a weekend tournament hosted by Prosper. Prior to the loss, Little Elm toppled Richardson and Denton, upending the Eagles, 80-68 on December 1 before ousting Denton, 83-40, the following day. The Lobos average 75.8 points per game while allowing approximately 63 points to opponents, and are 2-0 at home. Under the leadership of head coach Rusty Segler, Little Elm earned a playoff berth last season, falling to McKinney North, 62-42, in the UIL 5A Bi-District Round.
 
Last They Met…
A 29-point effort from Michael Jankovich and 19 points in the paint pushed Jesuit past Little Elm, 62-50, on December 1, 2015 at Walsh Gym. The Rangers forced 13 Little Elm turnovers, outrebounded the Lobos, 37-31, and shot 5-of-10 from three-point range in the second half, leading by a game-high 18 points with 1:40 remaining in the contest.

Jesuit will travel to Lincoln High School at 4:30 p.m .on Saturday, December 10 to take on the reigning UIL 4A State Champion Tigers. Saturday's game will be the second for the Rangers this year against a 2016 UIL State Champion, and are 1-0 against title holders after upending DeSoto, the 2016 UIL 6A State Champion, 71-53 on Monday, November 21.
