A multi-sport star who forged a stellar football career at the collegiate level, Wetzel was a four-time all-district selection at Jesuit who excelled on the gridiron and the hardwood.

In basketball, Wetzel was a two-year varsity starter for the Blue and Gold. After earning Team MVP honors for the freshman and junior varsity teams, Wetzel made his varsity debut as a junior in 2009-10, helping the Rangers secure the third district championship and first area round championship in program history. Serving as the team’s point guard, Wetzel averaged 9.9 points, 5.2 assists and 4.6 rebounds to secure 2009-10 UIL District 8-5A Basketball Newcomer of the Year honors, Team MVP plaudits, and a spot on the all-district first team. Wetzel tacked on his second all-district first team honor during his senior season, as the Rangers were 45-21 with a 24-4 district record during his two years on the varsity roster.

A two-time all-district pick in football, Wetzel made history on Sept. 3, 2010, as he scored six touchdowns on nine receptions to lead a Jesuit rally past Strake and join an elite group of players in Texas high school football history to ever achieve that feat. During his two seasons at wide receiver for the Rangers, Wetzel racked up 1,261 yards and 14 receiving touchdowns. A mid-season injury halted a torrid pace during Wetzel’s senior year, as Wetzel had racked up 602 yards and 11 touchdowns over six games. He finished his Jesuit football career averaging over 75 receiving yards per game.

Wetzel attended Fordham University where he started as a freshman before establishing himself as one of the top wide receivers in the Rams’ 141-year history. A 2014 All-American, Wetzel was selected to the All-Patriot League team three times and was the second Rams receiver to have three consecutive 1,000 yard seasons.

In addition to his prowess at receiver, Wetzel was the Rams’ starting punt returner, securing second-team All-Patriot League honors in 2012 and 2013 before earning first-team accolades in 2014 after leading the conference in punt return average. Closing his career with 3,870 receiving yards and 32 receiving touchdowns, Wetzel currently ranks second in program history for career receptions, career receiving yards, and career receiving touchdowns, while authoring the most 100-yard games ever by a Fordham player.
