Anthony Harden ran track at Jesuit, but earned a national reputation on the football field. Earning All-District honors as a junior, Harden became one of the state’s most electrifying players during a stunning senior season.

Harden averaged 210 yards per game in district play and rushed for 150 yards in a losing effort against St. Thomas (Houston) in the 1973 TCIL State Championship. In TCIL District 3A, Harden was named All-District, Offensive Player of the Year and the league MVP. Harden replicated the awards sweep at the state level, as he earned All-State honors, was named All-State Offensive Player of the Year and All-State MVP. In addition, he was named to the All-Greater Dallas and All-Metro teams, and was selected to the National Prep All-American team.

Chased by virtually every top school in the country, Harden signed with the University of Notre Dame. With the Irish, he became part of a legendary recruiting class that included future NFL Hall of Fame quarterback Joe Montana.
