A three-time starter for the Ranger football team and 1980 Parade All-American, Rob Finnegan became the fourth Jesuit Dallas tight end in a decade to attend the University of Notre Dame on a full athletic scholarship, following in the footsteps of Robin Weber, Dennis Grindinger, and Matt Ammon. Rob was the 1981 recipient of the Leo M. Ostdick Award as scholar-athlete of the year.

A four-year letterwinner in track & field, Rob set the TCIL state record in the shot put during his junior season and was the top shot putter at Notre Dame throughout his freshman year, winning the indoor title at the Midwestern City Conference Championships before diverting his attention purely to football.

Rob was a two-time letterwinner with the Irish and started or appeared in 36 games. He was selected as Notre Dame’s Player of the Game after a 1984 victory over Air Force.
