Joe LaRocca was a three-time letter recipient in football and a two-time letterman in basketball. A two-year starter on the varsity at quarterback, LaRocca played a pivotal role in Jesuit football’s 1949 TCIL State Championship victory, which also resulted in the first undefeated season on the grid iron in program history.

LaRocca attended the University of Houston after graduating from Jesuit, and served as quarterback on the University’s first freshman football team. Knee injuries ended LaRocca’s playing days before he could make an impact for the NCAA Division I program, although he was named athletic director and coach at Saint Rose of Lima parochial school during his senior year at Houston, where he coached his basketball and football teams to city championships.

After earning his Master’s degree, LaRocca, who earned the military rank of Captain, enjoyed a distinguished career in the U.S. Navy that included stints as the senior intelligence officer aboard the aircraft carrier Forrestal, deputy director of the Armed Forces Air Intelligence Training Center, and chief of the Naval Intelligence Officer and Enlisted courses.
