Ronnie Wallace lettered in track and football at Jesuit. He was a member of a record-setting mile relay team in 1972. He also qualified for state in the 100-yard dash, the 440y, the 440y-relay and the mile relay teams. Wallace was an All-District honoree and received All-City Honorable Mention as a defensive back.

Wallace continued to excel on the gridiron as a scholarship athlete for the University of New Mexico. As a sophomore, he led the Western Athletic Conference in interceptions. He was Second Team All-Conference and graduated holding fourth place on the all-time list for interceptions in the history of New Mexico.

In 1992, the NAACP awarded Wallace the Martin Luther King, Jr. Freedom Award for outstanding community service. Wallace received the 1995 Humanitarian Award from the City of Albuquerque’s Human Rights Board. In 1997 he was presented the Wings Award from the National Council of Negro Women for Service to Youth in the Albuquerque Community. He was also recognized as the 1998 Man of the Year by the Weekly Alibi, a weekly state publication. In 1999 he was recognized as a Distinguished Graduate of the University of New Mexico’s School of Public Administration.
