Charlie Arnold played quarterback for Jesuit and led the Rangers to their first victory ever over a Dallas high school. A local news story detailed the David-and-Goliath story: "Forest School pushed 68 yards and 11 plays after the opening kickoff, and converted…but, to use a baseball expression, that was before Jesuit came to bat. It was a popping, passing bombardment by the Rangers’ brilliant quarterback Charlie Arnold, which did the most damage. A hopelessly helpless Forest defense was raked, riddled and exhausted by a relentless Jesuit blitzkrieg at Dal-Hi Stadium as the Rangers routed the Lions, 41-13."

Charlie was chosen to the football All-Greater Dallas Second Team. He also lettered in basketball and baseball and was one of the founders of the Jesuit Letterman's Club. Charlie quarterbacked SMU to victories over Notre Dame in Missouri and was voted National Back-of-the-the Week after both of those games. A playing injury at SMU prematurely ended his collegiate career in the fall of 1956.
