Milam Joseph was the starting wingback for the Rangers’ 1954 TCIL state championship football team and was the sixth man on Jesuit’s 1955 state title in basketball. Ordained in 1964 for the Diocese of Dallas by Bishop Thomas K. Gorman, Monsignor Joseph had a tremendous impact in athletics primarily during his stint as president of the University of Dallas from 1996-2003.

Along with a variety of academic initiatives undertaken during his administration of the university, under Joseph’s leadership the University of Dallas met requirements for membership in NCAA Division III. Newly constructed fields for baseball, soccer and softball became a legacy of the Joseph tenure. In 2001, the women’s soccer team became the first team in the School’s history to qualify for an NCAA postseason, while the 2002 baseball team was ranked as high as No. 3 in the national polls and set the all-time won-loss record in Division III with a 33-3 ledger. He also guided the University to a multi-million dollar renovation of the Maher Athletic Center.
