A three-year letterman in both football and track, David Adamson, who started for the Rangers at safety his sophomore year and was, subsequently voted “Sophomore of the Year” in 1979, applied his athletic prowess thereafter on all sides of the field. In his junior and senior years, Adamson led the Rangers by serving as the team’s starting quarterback, kick returner, punt returner, and frequently as a safety on defense. All-District and All-State both years, team captain and MVP as a senior, Adamson was recognized as the School’s top scholar-athlete, receiving the Leo M. Ostdick Award at his 1982 commencement.

Upon graduation, Adamson attended SMU on a football scholarship. After red-shirting his freshman year, he lettered four years as a wide receiver for the Mustangs. As a featured member of the SMU offense, Adamson played in four consecutive bowls: 1982 Cotton Bowl, 1983 Sun Bowl, 1984 Aloha Bowl and the 1985 Japan Bowl. In his senior year, he earned Academic All-America honors and was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame, after being selected in 1986 as one of 11 national recipients of the College Football Hall of Fame Scholar-Athlete Award.
