One of the most impressive players in Jesuit Dallas’ rich history on the diamond, Michael Hollimon was a multi-sport standout for the Rangers before emerging as a baseball star in the collegiate ranks, and eventually, a highly coveted professional prospect. A four-year starter at shortstop, Hollimon was a three-time all-state selection in the TCIL, while he played a leading role in Jesuit’s stunning victory in the 1999 TCIL state title game.

Named First Team All-American by Baseball America in 2001, Hollimon was ranked as the No. 1 college prospect in the state of Texas and tabbed as the No. 12 prospect in the country during his senior season. Hollimon was a two-time selection for Team USA, winning a Gold medal for the U16 team in addition to a Bronze for the U18 squad.

Following his graduation from Jesuit, which also included a stellar basketball career in which he was part of two TCIL state championships, Hollimon attended the University of Texas. In three seasons, he helped guide the Longhorns to three Big XII titles, three appearances in the NCAA College World Series, and the 2002 national championship. He transferred to Oral Roberts for his senior campaign, where he was named the 2005 Mid-Continent Player of the Year in addition to accolades as a member of the NCAA College World Series Regional All-Tournament Team.

Hollimon, who was drafted by the Dodgers, Twins, and Tigers, was honored as a two-time Gold Glove winner in the Detroit organization. On June 6, 2008, Hollimon made his major league debut as the Tigers’ starting shortstop.
