Long before Jesuit Dallas would become synonymous with the best prep lacrosse programs in the region, Jeff Fellows was one of the first stars of the Rangers’ burgeoning program. A four-year player and team captain as a senior, he was also a two-time all-district and all-state selection. Widely considered among the very best players in the state, his legendary status was cemented following his 1997 senior season when he became the first alumnus to earn U.S. Lacrosse All-America honors.
Fellows granted Jesuit some of its first notable exposure during the ’97 campaign, as the Rangers finished fourth in the highly-competitive Golden Gate Tournament in Mountain View, Calif. Finishing the Texas regular-season undefeated including a 7-1 victory over Plano in the North Region Championship, Fellows’ capped his high school career in the semifinals of the state tournament, where then-Texas power Kinkaid would go on to claim its second straight crown. Â
In addition to his dominance donning the Blue and Gold, Fellows’ abilities reached a wider audience as captain of the elite travel squad, Team Texas. Following graduation from Jesuit, Fellows enjoyed a standout season at the Naval Academy Prep School where he scored a hat trick in his first game. Later that season in the highly-anticipated, Little Army-Navy game, the Prep school’s team captain scored four goals, including the game-winner.Â
Fellows went to become a four-year letterwinner and starter for the Midshipmen, who ranked among the top 20 college programs in the country during all four of his years while going a perfect 4-0 against the archrival Army Black Knights. Anchoring the midfield with his tough, relentless play, he capped his senior year by being named the recipient of the Lt. j.g. Frank McKeone Award for spirit, sportsmanship and as the team’s unsung hero.
A decorated commander in the United States Navy, following 15 years of active duty service piloting F/A-18EF Super Hornets and the F-35C Lightning II Strike Fighter, Fellows was selected to command the Navy’s first F-35C Strike Fighter squadron. In 2018, he started his command tour with VFA 147 Argonauts. His personal awards include a two-time recipient of the Strike Flight Air Medal, four Navy Commendation Medals, two Navy Achievement Medals, and various campaign and unit awards.
