A three-year letterman in both baseball and basketball, Chuck McGuire served as captain of both teams his senior year. A TCIL All-State selection in basketball his junior year when the Rangers won the state title, McGuire was also named to several all-tournament teams his senior year. In 1960, he was named the School’s most outstanding athlete.

Upon graduating from Jesuit, McGuire attended Texas A&M University on a baseball scholarship, where he was recognized as a First Team All-Southwest Conference pitcher three times (1962-64). When the Aggies competed in the 1964 NCAA College World Series, he was announced as an NCAA All-American. At the time of his graduation, McGuire ranked as Texas A&M’s all-time leader in career earned run average (2.00, 229 innings pitched). Three years he led the Aggies in wins and innings pitched (1962-64), while leading the team twice in complete games (1962-63) and strikeouts (1963-64).
