Jesuit Dallas Athletics

Longtime coach and administrator, Gary Pasqua was a standout football and baseball player at Jesuit. As a senior, he played on the School’s first TCIL state football championship team, receiving All-State accolades at linebacker while being named the team’s defensive player of the year. A three-time TCIL All-State selection in baseball, Pasqua, who played third base for his entire varsity career, was also selected to the All-Metro team in 1955.

Following graduation, Pasqua signed with the Cincinnati Reds, but initially opted against the pursuit of a major league baseball career in favor of a college education. Attending Sam Houston State University and the University of Houston, where he played both football and baseball, Pasqua re-signed with the Reds organization, but sustained a career-ending injury to his throwing arm while playing AAA ball.

Pasqua returned to Jesuit in 1959, teaching math while serving as assistant football and baseball coach. In 1964, he was named head coach of Ranger football, a post he manned for 29 years. During his tenure, Jesuit won 17 district titles and 10 state championships. In 1971, he was named director of athletics, and under his 23-year leadership, Jesuit won 11 TCIL All-Sport trophies.

While working for Jesuit, Pasqua also spent 28 seasons scouting for the Dallas Cowboys during the annual collegiate draft. Recipient of a myriad coaching awards and honorable distinctions, over 120 of Pasqua’s Jesuit players earned collegiate scholarships to play football.

Pasqua joined a select group when he was honored with Jesuit’s Distinguished Alumnus Award in 1982. Having complete 35 years of service to Jesuit as a teacher, coach and administrator, he retired in 1994. In 1997, Jesuit officially dedicated the football field in his honor.
