Mike Boeding was a standout basketball and baseball player at Jesuit, earning all-state distinction in both sports before becoming one of the most successful coaches in the history of the Jesuit basketball program.

Boeding was a member of the 1959 football team that won the state championship by defeating St. Thomas (Houston), while he also received TCIL All-State honors. In basketball, he received All-State accolades after his junior and senior years and was All-City in 1960.

Boeding played both basketball and baseball at the collegiate level at St. Mary’s University in San Antonio and the University of Dallas. In 1967, he returned to Jesuit as a teacher and coach of both freshman basketball and baseball. The following year he became the varsity basketball coach. For the next five years, Boeding guided the Jesuit basketball program. During those years, the Rangers won four District Championships and reached the state finals three straight years (1969-71). For the first time in program history, the Rangers won back-to-back state championships (1970 and 1971). During his tenure, he compiled an record of 108-58 (.651).Â
