Bill Ewen earned 11 varsity letters while at Jesuit in baseball, basketball and football. In the spring of 1949, he hurled the baseball program’s first recorded no-hitter. Ewen held the office of class president in 1946, 1948 and 1949 while also serving as captain of the basketball team and tri-captain of the football squad. He was voted as the School’s best athlete by his peers during his senior year.

Immediately after high school graduation, Ewen signed a professional baseball contract with the Cincinnati Reds. With the exception of the two years he spent in the U.S. Army serving in Orleans, France, Ewen played baseball in the spring and summer, and went to college in the fall and winter at SMU. After a five-year stint in the minors with teams in the Ohio-Indiana, West Texas-Mexico and Longorn Leagues, including Muncie, Rockford, Lubbok and San Angelo, Ewen gave up baseball in 1954 and went full-time to college graduating in 1956 from North Texas State University. Ewen passed away in 2013.
